This is Northumberland or Northumbria, a county filled with natural and man-made wonder. It is England’s most northern county and is desperate to be explored.
We cannot start without mentioning Hadrian’s Wall.

Wildlife in Northumberland
Northumberland is an amazing place to experience wildlife.
Watch the Roe deer pass the hut at dawn and dusk, experience the barn owl hunting for her family and wonder at the buzzards as they call and soar on the air thermals.
The whole area has an abundance of wildlife that you will experience at first hand during your stay, and by travelling further afield can enjoy species no longer seen in other parts of England, Northumberland remains one of the remaining red squirrel enclaves in the country.
Shopping, dining and recreation.
The hut is located a short distance, 15 mins drive, from the historic village of Corbridge. Corbridge is a wonderful place to visit with beautiful shops, eating places, historic pubs and of coursed Corbridge Roman Town.
The larger town of Hexham, situated only 20 minutes away, has all the facilities of a country market town.
Game Fishing
Situated within easy distance of the North and South Tyne Rivers offering high quality game fishing in beautiful surroundings.
The Tyne is the best river system for salmon and sea trout in England and Wales and is even starting to challenge some of the more famous Scottish rivers. The quality as well as the quantity of fish is superb; the season begins in February, with beautiful fish often caught on the opening day. Spring fish are gradually increasing in numbers with typically April/May being the best months. The best early season fishing up to May is on the main Tyne. Thereafter, the number of fish entering the river substantially increases. From June, the whole system produces steadily, with catches gradually increasing through July and August, and peaking in September and October.

The hut makes an excellent fishing lodge, so tight lines.
Coarse Fishing
Within 20 mins walk from our Shepherd Huts there is Whittle Dene three coarse fishing lakes set in beautiful rolling Northumberland countryside.
If you don’t want to walk far, the roadside banks on the Northern and Lower lakes are easily accessible, while for the more adventurous minded the grassy banks are easy to traverse with a trolley if you want to explore further afield.
Sometimes it can pay to fish the far banks of the top two lakes, which often provide bigger fish. If you prefer solitude the 10-15 minute walk to the Great Southern lake is worth the effort too, offering stunning scenery and the potential for some of the best roach fishing you will ever enjoy.

Walking
We are located within a 10 minute walk of the Hadrian’s Wall Path National Trail.
A walk that follows in the footsteps of Roman soldiers along the long distance trail, a staggering 84 miles through some of the most beautiful landscapes in the country.
We will pick you up from the walk and transport you back in the morning, with a breakfast basket to feed your strength.
We have drying facilities for those days when the weather is bad!
If this sounds too strenuous there are many different shorter routes that can be explored.

Cycling
5 minutes ride from Hadrian’s Cycleway we offer a pleasant respite for the saddle weary warrior.
With buildings for secure bike and room to dry equipment and clothing, we are happy to support any riders on their tour through Northumberland.
